Philippines AirAsia was founded in December 2010, when Tony Fernandes, a Malaysian Investor entered a 40-60 joint venture with a group of Filipino business people since the Philippine Constitution does not allow 100% foreign ownership for a Philippine-registered business. The airline received its Air Operator Certificate on February 7, 2012, allowing the airline to fly in the Philippine Airspace.
Captain Dexter Comendador was named as the Chief Executive Officer of Philippines AirAsia on January 10, 2017. Capt. Comendador has been serving the aviation industry for more than 33 years. Before starting his professional career as a commercial pilot in 1992, he served as a combat pilot, flight commander and a pilot instructor in the Philippine Air Force for eight years. He graduated as a cum laude of the Philippine Military Academy and is a recipient of 26 service medals, including two Gold Crosses for bravery and successful combat operations. Capt. Comendador joined the team as Chief Pilot for Operations before being promoted as Director of Flight Operations and Chief Operating Officer.
