Hertz is one of the popular car renting sites and is always compared to Avis. Hertz was founded in 1918 by Walter Jacobs. The founder’s ambitious attitude was the reason the transportation company was established in the first place. Hertz is actually the pioneer in this kind of business, since Jacobs founded Hertz when he was just 22. Though, Hertz was initially known as a rent-a-ford company; when it was bought by John D. Hertz in 1923, the name was successfully changed to what it is known nowadays: Hertz. It only took 2 years for John to raise the sales of Hertz by generating an annual revenue of about $1 million.
Now, Hertz is being led by their newly-appointed President and CEO in 2014, John Tague. Prior to his promotion, Tague has extensive experience in the transportation business and had been a valuable asset of Hertz. The travel and transportation veteran’s management had been one of the reasons why Hertz is still the best car rental company.
How Does Hertz Work?
To be honest, their web page is quite confusing at a first glance, since the information are overloaded. Though, to dissect the features of the page, the left hand provides the option for customers to search and book for their preferred service by entering their pickup location, date, time, and car rental type. The background image promotes the daily deals of Hertz, while the right hand provides general information of Hertz’ discounts and services.
We actually expected a better view on their official site: since Hertz had been going on for almost 100 years, their layout could have been more user-friendly or at least modernized. People do believe first impressions last; who would trust a company that doesn’t even have the initiative to develop their own domain?
On a positive note, Hertz has the option to change the country of origin and language of the site to fit to the customer’s preference. Hertz Gold Plus Rewards is the program of Hertz wherein travellers earn point, like how it works in Miles services on airlines. Moreover, the program is free. Hertz Reviews of Customers
However, we are disappointed to read the feedback of actual customers of Hertz. On Trustpilot and ConsumerAffairs, the car rental site receives daily complaints which explain why it reached to an overall rating of 1/10. After reading the most recent Hertz reviews, we found out that the majority of complaints circulate around the weird charges customers had been seeing on their bank statements which are charged by Hertz. The company left them without an explanation, and that’s what makes it worse.

We actually thought at first that Hertz was a stylized version of “Hearts,” since the company had been providing love and care to their loyal customers. However, it is not a joke that their reputation is in a bad shape. Maybe answering customers’ concerns is better than ignoring them, because the latter will cause more suspicion over the “scam” issue of Hertz. We do believe Hertz will find a way to fix this.
