It all began with American Airlines’ access to the online reservation system called “Sabre” in 1978, and it was later on extended in the 1980s to American Online. As a subsidiary of Sabre Holdings, Travelocity was created in 1996. The founder, Mr. Terry Jones, is still the long-time Sabre IT executive. Since the beginning of the travel site, they were actually the first ones who accommodated to reserve, book, and purchase tickets without the help of a travel agent or broker. Travelocity hit the travel market when AOL’s travel portal became associated with the brand in 1999.
In 2004, a series of viral advertisements was used by Travelocity. This was known as “Where’s my Gnome?” We all know what is a Garden Gnome: it is a figurine of a small humanoid creature that serves as an ornamentation of plants in gardens or front lawns. It rooted with a prank of stealing a gnome to travel and have selfies with famous landmarks, and photos will be returned to the owner.
Since then, the “Roaming Gnome” had been the livery mascot of Travelocity.
How does Travelocity Work?
The middle man of travel bookings is another America-based online travel agency. Well, to be honest, when I got to Travelocity, I had an impression that I was on Facebook. Since the blue bar line and white font on the top has a striking resemblance to Mark Zuckerberg’s social media giant. Travelocity has one international site: to Canada. Nothing had actually changed from the last time we viewed the travel site in July 2015.
Travelocity is an online travel agency where customers can search and compare from the lowest price from 400 airlines and more than 271,000 hotels worldwide. Travelers can also change plans with no change or cancellation fees.
Travelocity Reviews from Consumers
What’s the catch? Nothing had really changed since the last time we wrote a review about Travelocity. As much as possible, we used the same method of searching feedback as with last time, to provide a better comparison of then and now. With the help of ConsumerAffairs, we were able to gather these Travelocity reviews. Out of 987 Travelocity reviews, their score rating is at 1.⅕, and it is quite obvious that the most recent reviews were negative too.

They also have a mobile app ready to be downloaded. But, I guess this information won’t be necessary anymore, since Travelocity is still unreliable according to consumers. Their slogan “Go and Smell the Roses” still pricks us, EVEN after a year.
