When traveling to different places, there are times when we can’t help bit pack a lot of stuff, especially clothes because we want to look our best during the trip. What we often forget is how hard it will be to move around when we have too much things to carry around as we go from one place to another. Here are 5 Tips on How to Travel Light, to make the trip not just memorable and enjoyable.
1. One Bag
Many frequent travelers often make it a point that they’re only carrying one bag that is only the same size as their back and also not too heavy that it’s giving them a hard time moving around. An ideal measurement of the bag would be 9″x21″x14″ as it can easily fit in the plane’s overhead bin and at the same time it wouldn’t be too big to carry around as you take a stroll or a day tour.
2. Maximize the Space
Fill your bag with as much stuff (that you NEED) as you can, but just enough that it can fit the overhead compartment of the plane you’re boarding. If you’re having a hard time thinking what you should bring, spread out everything on the floor and only pack what you badly need. It may be a tough decision to make, but it will save you big time during your trip.
3. Rule of Thirds?
If you won’t be away for too long, an ideal number of things to bring would be three pairs of socks, three pairs of underwear, three shirts, and two pairs of pants or leggings. To avoid problems during the trip, bring clothes that are appropriate to the culture of the place you’re going to and choose clothes that are easy to mix and match and are not easily wrinkled.
4. “Wearing is not carrying”
When traveling, you can avoid being charged for extra baggage weight by packing your lightest stuff and wearing the heaviest ones. When going to colder places, wear you jacket on the way there so it won’t take much space (and weight) in your luggage. If you’re going trekking or hiking, wear your boots and pack your flip-flops or sandals. You might feel heavier at first, but you’ll get used to it eventually. Plus, you won’t have to worry about paying for the extra weight of your gear.
5. Bring a sarong
It may sound unusual for some guys, but this piece of cloth could really come in handy, especially when you’re doing outdoor activities. A sarong can be used as a blanket, a privacy wall, a towel, a bag, a sunshade, a changing room, and even a skirt or dress for the ladies. Having this versatile piece in your bag could not only make your bag lighter, but also give you more space for other things since it doesn’t really take much space.
